2026 Policy Audit

Tax-Free Youth

Huge Benefit: Students under the age of 25 are exempt from paying Personal Income Tax (SZJA) in Hungary. This means your 'in-hand' salary from part-time jobs is 15% higher.

Stipend Reality

Financial Reality: The BSc/MSc stipend (HUF 43,700 / ~€110) plus HUF 40,000/mo housing contribution does NOT cover Budapest's €450-€650 living costs — most students need family support or part-time work. PhD: HUF 140,000 (phase 1, first 4 sem) / HUF 180,000 (phase 2).

Medical Hub

Global Standard: Hungary is a top destination for Medicine. Degrees from Semmelweis/Debrecen are EU-recognized and valid for USMLE (USA) & NEXT (India).

Fully Funded Option

Stipendium Hungaricum

The Hungarian Government pays for your education.

FAQs

Common questions about Hungary.

HUGE 2026 ADVANTAGE: If you are under 25 years old, you are EXEMPT from Personal Income Tax (SZJA) in Hungary. This means your 'in-hand' salary from part-time jobs is 15% higher than older workers.
Honest Answer: Not fully. Per the 2026/27 call, the BSc/MSc/non-degree stipend is HUF 43,700/month (~€110) plus HUF 40,000/month accommodation contribution — Budapest living costs run €450–€650/month so most students need family support or part-time work. PhD students get HUF 140,000/mo for phase 1 (first 4 semesters), rising to HUF 180,000/mo for phase 2. Source: stipendiumhungaricum.hu (2026/27 Call for Applications).
Most universities accept a 'Medium of Instruction' (MOI) certificate if you studied in English. However, for the Visa Interview at the Embassy (Delhi/Mumbai), having an IELTS (5.5/6.0) creates a much stronger profile and reduces rejection risk.
Yes. Degrees from Semmelweis, Debrecen, etc., are recognized by WHO, EU, and NMC (India). Graduates are eligible to sit for USMLE (USA) and NEXT (India).
Under Act XC of 2023 (effective for applications from 1 January 2025), the legacy 'national permanent residence permit' was replaced by the National Residence Card / EU Residence Card, requiring 3 years of continuous lawful residence + a mandatory Hungarian Cultural Knowledge Exam (Hungarian history, constitution, laws — conducted in Hungarian). Exemptions: minors under 14 and national-interest cases. Source: oif.gov.hu.
